Collection includes clippings, pamphlets, programs, typescript articles, minutes, broadsides, cemetery records, brochures, and newsletters, 1878-1986, pertaining to people, events, and history of Cornwall and the Hudson Valley. Subjects include businesses, churches, fire department, old houses, politics, clubs, and schools. Items of note include a photocopy of the minutes of the Cornwall Village Band, 1891-1893; a Democratic Canvass Book election district 2, 1920; typescript history of Cornwall with photographs and clippings by Dorothy H. Deane, 1938; and a photocopy of a typescript history of the Sands-Ring family which includes transcripts of the journal of David Sands, 1797, and of the letters of Catherine Sands Ring, Samuel Ring, Moses and Cornelia Cunningham, and Jeremiah Clark Cunningham, 1828-1862.

David Sands was a Quaker minister from southeastern New York. He was born into a Presbyterian family at Cowneck, Long Island, on 11 mo. 4 1745. Around 1759 the family moved to Cornwall in Orange County, N.Y., where the sickly youth spent much of his time in contemplation of religious matters. In 1766 Sands was convinced to join the Society of Friends through the ministry of English Quaker Samuel Nottingham and was accepted into membership in Nine Partners Monthly Meet1ng, N.Y. ...
